Key to terms: ch-chain; sp-space; sl st-slip stitch; sc-single crochet; dc-double crochet; ch sp-chain space (the hole created by chain rather than a crocheted stitch);, 2ch sp-chain space created by 2 chains; rnd-round (group of stitches and chains that go around the square one time).
Notes: 4 Ply Worsted weight yarn, G hook.
DIRECTIONS: First square: Start, ch4 and close
into a ring by sl st in first ch. Rnd 1:
Ch 5, *3 dc in the ring, ch 2 repeat from * 2 more times in ring, 2 dc in ring and sl st in 3rd ch (of 5 chains) for total of 4 groups of 3dcs.
Rnd 2: Sl st over to the next ch, ch 3, (2dc, ch2, 3dc) in the ch sp, *ch1.(3dc, ch2,
3dc). Repeat from * 2 more times
ch 1. Sl St over top of 3rd ch and over 2 dc to corner.
Rnd 3:Ch 3, 2 dc in ch sp, ch 2, 3 dc in 2 ch sp. * ch 1. In the next ch sp, 3dc. ch 1, (3 dc, 2ch,3 dc) in ch sp. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch sp. ch 1 sl st over the stitches to the next corner.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, (2dc. ch2. 3 dc) in ch sp, ch1, 3 dc in next chsp, ch1, 3 dc in next ch sp, ch1. (3dc. 2ch. 3 dc) in ch sp. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch1, 3 dc in the next ch sp. Ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch sp, ch1, join with sl st to top of chain.
Rnd 5: Continuing ch 1, sc in each dc and 4sc in
each 2ch sp and 1sc in each ch sp all the way around. Join with sl st. Fasten
off. Make 69 more squares to create an afghan by joining squares
with yarn and yarn needle. You may create border by sc or dc all the way
around outside (with 3 sc or dc in the corners). Add fringe if desired.
